Far North Trip 28th March 2013                As told by Jeff Clarke

So we all waited at the BP Ngaruawahia for our trip leader Steve Kernot to arrive (and wqaited, and waited…).

Then we were underway, stopping at the Bombays for some dinner.

On through the night we went till we arrived at Kaiwaka for a sleep.

Up and off to Dargaville. Then we found a beach.

After a little park up, we were off again.

We found a nice area for lunch.

We even saw some signs of Kiwi’s along the side of the road.

We wound our way through windy roads in the Kauri forest.
A big tree!!!

Onwards to Opononi where Dennis meet his neighbour (Think it was. Dale anyway).
Some fish and chips for lunch. Then away.

Arriving at our home for the next few days.

Our host Ray who couldn’t do enough for us (and sidekick Kevin).

Many games of pool.

Not just enough food to feed an Ethiopian, but enough to feed the whole tribe!!!

A visit to Kauri Tourist shop (no Steve didn’t buy this tourist from the shop).

Dusty Trails.

A beach at the end.

Cape Reinga was so busy some inventive parking was called for.

People sliding down the dunes.

90 Mile Beach

Keen.

Gotta love the old 40 series.

Around a lot of lumpy rocks at the end.
Dennis tried to find a way out through the hills, but it was back over the rocks again.
Was at peak rush hour for the rocks by the time we headed back.

Paihia for breakfast.
Over the ferry.

Another lovely beach. Only this was softer than 90 mile.

Some went to feed the fish and some went and played in the large sand hills.
Jeff even had a swim it was that warm.

Some over 1600Km’s of travel.

A fantastic trip.
Thanks to Steve for putting it together and to Dennis for being tour guide.
